Message from the ED – June 2024

June marks the celebration of two important events: Father’s Day and Pride Month.

Father’s Day is a time to honour the fathers, father figures, and caregivers in our lives. Pride Month is a time to celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their ongoing fight for equality.

These are two groups that often face significant challenges when it comes to their mental health. Fathers, father figures, and caregivers often face immense pressures and expectations. Likewise, the2SLGBTQIA+ community contends with unique struggles, such as discrimination and social isolation, leading to higher rates of anxiety and depression.

So, as we celebrate, let’s take into account ways to support their mental health. Here are a few ideas to get started:

Show Appreciation: Take a moment to express gratitude to the fathers and father figures in your life. Acknowledging their support can strengthen your bond and promote emotional well-being.

Support 2SLGBTQIA+ Friends and Family: It’s also a time to acknowledge the mental health challenges faced by this community, which can include discrimination, social isolation, and higher rates of anxiety and depression. Reach out to your 2SLGBTQIA+ friends and family members to show your support. Even a small act of kindness can have a significant impact on someone’s sense of belonging and well-being.

Create an Inclusive Environment: Foster a culture of openness and acceptance where everyone feels safe to express their true selves without fear of judgment or stigma.

Wishing everyone courage, perseverance, and happiness as we commemorate Father’s Day and Pride Month.
